Outrage in Kenya Over $2.9 Billion Airport Deal with Zimbabwean Firm

A ZimLive report claims Chivayo's IMC Construction Kenya joined China's CCCC and CRBC to win a $2.9 billion deal to expand Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, boosting capacity from 8 million to 23 million passengers yearly with a new terminal and runway by 2029.

The project follows the 2024 cancellation of a cheaper Adani Group bid amid protests and a U.S. probe, with Kenya funding $1.3 billion and the rest from banks.

Critics question the cost jump, Chivayo's fraud-tainted past in Zimbabwe, and lack of transparency, as Kenyan media and the Law Society demand full disclosure while online calls grow for President Ruto to go.
