Ruto Announces KSh 2 Billion for Protest Victims' Compensation

Speaking at State House in Nairobi, Ruto accepted the KNCHR's Framework for Reparations, which documents 281 complaints from 2017 to mid-2025, especially the 2024 Gen Z protests against the Finance Bill that left dozens dead and hundreds injured.

The funds target verified harm like injuries, lost lives, damaged property, and affected officers, following a March 2026 proclamation and High Court ruling.

While officials like Interior CS Murkomen call it a milestone with police training ahead, advocates urge strong implementation and accountability beyond payments.
