Kenya Agencies Spent Sh160 Billion on Vague 'Other Expenses'

Kenya’s Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang’o reported that state agencies spent Sh160 billion on unclear 'other expenses' in the 2025/26 financial year ending June 30, 2026, with many failing to provide breakdowns.

The National Police Service alone used Sh16 billion, including Sh11.4 billion on 'security operations' without details, while Internal Security spent Sh24.09 billion and the National Treasury Sh15.87 billion in the category.

Critics call it 'budgeted corruption' and question accountability amid Sh13.01 trillion public debt, urging clearer reporting for public scrutiny.
