During a
development tour on September 10-11, President William Ruto announced Kericho
Town's upgrade to city status, backed by billions in investments for housing,
roads, a modern market, a 10,000-seat stadium, water, and electricity projects.
Key launches included a KSh5.6 billion phase of 2,200 affordable homes, KSh22 billion for 300km of roads linking tea farmers to markets, and a Special Economic Zone for jobs and digital growth.
While supporters filled rallies in Kapsoit, Kokwet, and Kapkatet, one observer questioned if Kericho meets legal criteria like a 250,000 population and robust infrastructure.
