Ameir Hassan, husband of President Samia Suluhu Hassan since 1978 and father of
their four children, died at 8 a.m. local time while receiving heart treatment
at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar.
Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi announced the news and extended condolences to the president, her family, and all Tanzanians, with funeral arrangements underway in Kizimkazi.
Regional leaders including Kenya's William Ruto, Rwanda's Paul Kagame, and others shared messages of sorrow and solidarity, honoring Hassan's life as an agricultural academic who supported his wife quietly after she became president in 2021.
