17 Pilgrims Die in Highway Crash En Route to Prayer Day

Seventeen members of St. Mathias Mulumba Catholic Church died when their 14-seater matatu was crushed in a chain-reaction crash involving trucks at Mlima Kiu blackspot on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway around 1 a.m. on October 3.

They were traveling to the National Shrine in Subukia for National Prayer Day. Grieving families gathered at the church amid tears and prayers, while President Ruto and other leaders offered condolences; authorities are investigating and urging safer driving on the dangerous corridor.
