The WHO Director-General arrived in conflict-torn
Bunia, Ituri province, to support the fight against a rapidly spreading Ebola
outbreak declared on May 15, caused by the rare Bundibugyo strain with no
vaccine or treatment.
By May 29, it had led to 906 suspected cases and
223 suspected deaths in DRC, plus cases in Uganda, spreading across 13 health
zones amid insecurity and displacement.
Tedros met with DRC's Prime Minister and health workers, praising their experience while calling for more funding and community trust to overcome attacks on facilities and testing delays, with supplies arriving and experimental treatments in trials.
