Kenya Sets General Election for August 10, 2027

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission announced Tuesday, August 10, 2027, as election day during the launch of its Strategic Plan 2024-2029 and Election Operations Plan 2025-2027 in Nairobi.

Key steps include public officers resigning by February 9, party primaries wrapping by May 9, nominations from May 29 to June 11, and campaigns ending August 7.

Chief Justice Martha Koome praised the timeline and called for legal updates to boost inclusion and curb risks like violence, while some leaders like Justin Muturi pushed for voter register audits first.

The IEBC aims to register 6.3 million new voters and foster trust through transparency.
