A wave of unrest has shut over 50 Kenyan secondary schools
since May, sparked by riots, arson like the deadly Utumishi Girls Academy fire
that killed 16, and protests over exam stress, poor food, and overcrowding.
Recent closures hit Bungoma High and others, where students
were sent home at night to avoid violence, leaving some stranded in the dark.
The Education Ministry suspended exams, added inspectors, and insists learning continues elsewhere, while students chant they deserve the same treatment as peers at elite schools like Alliance High.
