Ruto Pledges 28 New Stadiums in Kenya by Next Year

The announcement targets modernizing sports facilities ahead of AFCON 2027 with Uganda and Tanzania, including the nearly complete 60,000-seat Raila Odinga International Stadium in Nairobi and upgrades at Kasarani, Nyayo, and Eldoret venues.

These projects mix new builds and renovations under a national masterplan, many led by the Kenya Defence Forces in areas like Wajir and Kisii, aiming to nurture talent, create jobs, and position Kenya as a sports hub.

While supporters highlight rapid progress and recent infrastructure wins, critics point to past delays and question timing amid economic challenges.
