On June 9 in Norway, Ruto met Norwegian Shipowners’
Association leaders, who committed to hiring 1,000 qualified Kenyan seafarers
by 2030, starting with 120 from Wilhelmsen Ship Management by year's end.
Talks also covered new shipping routes from Mombasa
and Lamu ports, green shipping, ocean sustainability, skills training, and
linking Norway's wealth fund to Kenya's infrastructure like 10,000 megawatts of
power.
The visit builds on prior Belgium deals for digital and internet upgrades, amid home reactions praising economic steps while questioning travel costs during debt challenges.
