Student Dies After Being Thrown from Matatu Over KSh 50 Fare

The final-year student at Kenya Medical Training College's Yatta campus fell onto the tarmac from the speeding Nicco Movers Sacco matatu (KDV 713J), suffered fatal injuries, and passed away at Kenyatta National Hospital that Thursday.

Witnesses and dashcam footage captured the pink-and-blue bus driving off as traffic backed up, with a good Samaritan rushing him for help only to find the crew brushing off confrontation.

 Kasarani police impounded the vehicle and are pursuing the driver and conductor, while Nairobi MP Esther Passaris called for a swift probe, highlighting how no fare dispute justifies risking a life. The incident has renewed calls for reform in Kenya's matatu sector amid its history of safety issues.
