Uganda Police Arrest 10th Suspect in Rugby Star Sydney Gongodyo's Mob Killing

Sydney Gongodyo, a 27-year-old forward for Uganda Rugby Cranes and Stanbic Black Pirates, died on June 5 after a Kampala mob wrongly accused him of handbag theft and beat him with logs and other objects.

Police have now arrested 10 suspects, including Mugwiisa Obed, identified from video in a yellow T-shirt, and security guard Owino Joseph; earlier detainees include Noordin Ssebagala, Roden Ayebazibwe, and others.

His club retired his No. 7 jersey, he leaves a wife and one-year-old son, and the case has renewed calls to end vigilantism in Uganda amid public distrust of the justice system.
