IEBC Rejects Claims New Bill Ends Election Livestreams

The Elections Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, sponsored by Senate leaders Aaron Cheruiyot and Stewart Madzayo, proposes changes to result transmission but does not repeal the livestream requirement under Section 39(1G), according to the IEBC.

Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon called media reports a misrepresentation, stressing that Form 34A remains the key record, with open announcements at stations and public access online.

The commission highlighted fixes for areas without 3G networks and alignment with the Supreme Court's 2017 ruling, amid public outcry over potential trust erosion ahead of next year's vote.
