South African midfielder Jayden
Adams, who played in all three of Bafana Bafana's group-stage matches at the
2026 World Cup including their knockout-qualifying victory over South Korea,
passed away on Saturday morning in Cape Town at age 25.
The Mamelodi Sundowns player, who
recently helped his club win the PSL title and CAF Champions League, had shown
remarkable resolve by playing through the grief of losing his grandmother just
before a match.
His club, the South African
Minister of Sport, SAFPU, and CAF all expressed deep sorrow, with tributes
pouring in as police investigate the circumstances. Adams leaves behind a
partner and young daughter, his legacy tied to Bafana's landmark World Cup run.
