Kenya Senate Bill Seeks to End Livestream of Election Results

The Elections Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, sponsored by Senate leaders Aaron Cheruiyot and Stewart Madzayo, would remove the legal mandate for the IEBC to livestream results from polling stations.

Results would still get declared locally, sent electronically to centers, and scanned forms uploaded online, but critics say this cuts real-time public oversight crucial after past crises and court rulings.

Supporters call it a reform from 2022 dialogues, noting livestreams were never the official record and caused delays. The bill heads to committee amid strong public pushback ahead of 2027 polls.
