Kenya's Directorate of Criminal
Investigations introduces the Multi-Biometric Identification System (MBIS)-ABIS
Version 5 on July 20, 2026, to automate fingerprint checks and slash processing
times from weeks to potentially 24 hours for simple cases.
Applicants still begin on the
eCitizen portal, pay KES 1,050, and provide fingerprints at DCI offices or
Huduma Centres, but the upgrade promises less backlog and manual work.
The change supports Kenya's digital public services drive and has users voicing relief alongside hopes for even easier options like phone scans.
