Kenya's Electoral Commission Proposes KSh 4.44 Billion Presidential Campaign Cap for 2027

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission released draft rules this week capping presidential candidates at KSh 4.44 billion and parties at KSh 17.7 billion during the official 2027 campaign period, covering costs like ads, travel, and agents.

Limits for other races scale by population and land size, such as up to KSh 123 million for governors in big counties like Turkana.

The public can submit feedback until July 15, after which Parliament decides—reviving past efforts stalled since 2021 amid concerns over unchecked 2022 spending.
