Mt Kenya East Leader Calls for Separate Political Negotiations

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, from Embu County, argued on NTV's Fixing the Nation that Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi counties face unique challenges needing distinct political talks, without splitting the region geographically.

His remarks highlight tensions in the 11.9 million-strong Mt Kenya voting bloc, where President Ruto and former deputy Rigathi Gachagua compete for support ahead of 2027 elections.

Ruku, a Ruto loyalist, dismissed Gachagua's efforts as populism while eastern leaders point to disparities in roads and resources compared to Kikuyu-dominated west counties.
