China Hits 28% of Global Manufacturing Output

In 2023, China's manufacturing reached $4.66 trillion, claiming 28 percent of the global total and surpassing the next three largest economies combined, up from just 6 percent in 2000.

Exports surged 23 percent in July, driven by high-tech electronics and vehicles, while the central bank added gold reserves for the 21st straight month, hitting 76.08 million ounces worth $306.35 billion.

Commentators note that much production meets Western demand, outsourcing emissions, even as rural areas face infrastructure gaps.
