Kenya Opposition Leaders Reject Gachagua's Party Merger Push

On August 4, 2026, PNU's Peter Munya, Democratic Party's Justin Muturi, and DEP's Lenny Kivuti jointly rejected Gachagua's calls to dissolve their parties into his Democracy for Citizens Party.

They accused him of divisive, dictatorial leadership and urged structured dialogue instead of directives.

The rift, labeled an 'Opposition Divorce' online, threatens Mount Kenya unity ahead of the 2027 election and could aid President William Ruto's re-election by keeping opponents fragmented.
