Kenyan High Court Rules Next Presidential Election Due August 2026

The High Court ruled that the Constitution requires the presidential election on the second Tuesday of August in the fifth year after the 2022 poll, setting August 11, 2026, as the date.

Justice Thande found any 2027 vote unconstitutional and null, following a petition by Dr. Owiso Owiso, Khelef Khalifa, and Ashioya Biko against the IEBC's timeline.

She suspended the ruling's effect until after the next election to avoid chaos, fueling debate on President Ruto's term and likely appeals to higher courts.
