Deputy
Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli announced that the National Police Service
will recommend to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission which
aspirants are unfit based on their track records, drawing on Chapter Six of the
Constitution's integrity standards.
The IEBC already screens candidates, and this comes ahead of the August 10, 2027, polls for president, governors, and lawmakers.
Online reactions show strong skepticism, with many questioning the police's legal authority and pointing to their own unresolved issues like goonism, while supporters see it as a way to prevent violence and graft.
