Passenger Ferry Capsizes Off Northern Cyprus with 270 Aboard

A catamaran-style passenger ferry operated by Filo Jet overturned shortly after leaving Kyrenia port in Northern Cyprus, en route to Taşucu, Turkey, with around 270 people including 259 passengers and 8 crew.

The vessel began taking on water about 2 kilometers offshore near Diana Beach, prompting a swift response from coast guard boats, private vessels, and ambulances waiting at the port.

Some passengers have reached safety wearing life vests, though reports note injuries and at least one death amid ongoing rescue efforts, with hospitals on alert.
