Xi Jinping Signs Friendship Treaty with Kyrgyzstan at SCO Summit

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Bishkek for the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit and a state visit, where Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov welcomed him with talks and a formal ceremony.

The leaders signed a treaty on permanent good-neighborliness, friendship, and cooperation, which Xi called a foundation for lasting ties advancing 'by leaps and bounds.'

They also finalized agreements on border infrastructure and cultural exchanges, amid progress on projects like the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, as the SCO marks its 25th anniversary with leaders from Russia, India, and others discussing security and economic ties.
