Hungary's
National Assembly voted unanimously 139-0 on Monday to suspend Prime Minister
Péter Magyar's parliamentary immunity, allowing prosecutors to pursue a criminal
probe into an alleged phone theft at Budapest's Ötkert nightclub in June 2024.
Magyar admits taking the phone during an argument but denies theft, calling the case politically driven; police recovered the €300 device from the Danube unharmed.
The vote also lifted immunity for two former Fidesz ministers facing separate corruption probes, marking the first time a sitting Hungarian PM has lost this protection amid his Tisza party's push for accountability.
