Kenya Signs Deal for 540,000 Tonnes of Zambian Maize

Kenya's Baita Trading Company Limited inked a contract with Zambia’s Food Reserve Agency to import up to 540,000 tonnes of white Grade A non-GMO maize, arriving in six batches over several months.

Zambia, fresh off a 5.1 million tonne harvest that exceeds its needs, gains foreign exchange and supports farmers, while Kenya taps a reliable regional source amid its own lower output.

Leaders from both sides hailed the private-sector agreement as a boost to cross-border trade, though some Kenyans voiced concerns online about prioritizing local farming over large imports.
