Speaking at the Yalta European Strategy conference
organized by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, Petraeus explained that Putin aims
to restore the Soviet Union and views Moldova as the likely next target due to
its lack of NATO membership and the Russian-backed separatist region of
Transnistria.
He criticized European countries for not making needed changes in their warfare, defense, and security concepts.
The comments
spread through video clips, coinciding with a Russian drone strike near the
Polish border that hit a train in the area where Petraeus and others, including
Boris Johnson, were traveling back from the event.
