Late
Thursday night, a petroleum tanker overturned near Paul Boit Secondary School
on the Eldoret-Webuye road in Uasin Gishu County's Juakali area, spilling fuel
that ignited and killed at least two people while injuring more than a dozen
with severe burns.
Many victims were locals who rushed to collect the leaking petrol, as seen in circulating videos.
Kenya Red Cross treated it as a mass casualty incident, rushing 14 to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital; police and firefighters secured the scene through the night, with rescue efforts ongoing Friday morning. The event highlights repeated dangers of crowds gathering at fuel spills.
