Uhuru Kenyatta Agrees to Step Down from Jubilee Party Leadership After Court Ruling

On September 14, Justice Lawrence Mugambi ruled that retired presidents cannot hold political party positions more than six months after leaving office, upholding Kenya's Presidential Retirement Benefits Act.

Kenyatta's team accepted the verdict the next day, committing to a smooth handover in line with the party constitution and rule of law.

The move clears the way for Jubilee's transition ahead of future elections, while allowing Kenyatta to remain a party member and active in politics, including the Azimio coalition.
