Iran's
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that oil tankers, with navigation
systems disabled and using unauthorized routes, hit naval mines in the
strategic Strait of Hormuz, causing fires in their engine rooms.
Iranian sources described one or two supertankers each carrying around two million barrels of crude as involved, framing the incidents as enforcement of transit rules amid regional tensions. While Al Jazeera reported the IRGC claims of two tankers ablaze, Reuters noted a lack of independent confirmation, with no details yet on the vessels' identities, flags, or crew.
