Kenya
confirmed its first imported Ebola case on October 6, 2026, in a citizen who
traveled from the Democratic Republic of Congo via Uganda before arriving in
Nairobi on October 3. Officials mobilized over Sh75 billion Sh51.8 billion from
the World Bank, Sh21 billion from the US, and Sh2.6 billion from the National
Treasury for surveillance, border detection, health worker training, and
supplies.
Public skepticism runs high, with accusations that officials exaggerated the single death to secure funds, possibly for political use ahead of 2027 elections, amid past controversies like a disputed US-funded facility.
