Kenya Seeks Ksh127 Billion Loan from World Bank and AfDB

Treasury’s Public Debt Management Director General Raphael Owino confirmed talks for roughly Ksh94 billion from the World Bank and Ksh34 billion from the African Development Bank, expected before the 2026/27 financial year ends. This follows stalled IMF discussions, with the budget gap projected at Ksh1.288 trillion due to high debt costs and low revenues.

At the same time, the World Bank outlined reforms in avocado and mango processing, medical manufacturing, and coastal tourism that could unlock Sh194.6 billion in investment and create 80,000 jobs, despite concerns from some Kenyans about rising borrowing and the need for transparency.
