The Kenya
Revenue Authority issued an October 12, 2026, notice to First Community Bank,
appointing it as agent to recover Sh623,389,105 from funds linked to former
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko. The amount covers alleged income tax arrears from
2015 to 2019, including Sh308.92 million in principal, Sh15.76 million in
penalties, and Sh298.72 million in interest, under Section 42 of the Tax
Procedures Act.
Sonko shared the news on social media, noting his accounts were frozen, while the notice warns the bank of liability until full recovery. The move follows standard KRA procedures for tough collections, amid varied reactions noting timing after his recent court comments.
