On October
19, about 4.5 billion KPC shares worth Sh42.5 billion traded on the Nairobi
Securities Exchange, making up 25 percent of issued shares and dominating the
day's turnover. President William Ruto called it private investors buying a 25
percent stake from public entities to draw in capital for infrastructure, with
brokers Rock Investment Bank selling and KCB Investment Bank representing the
buyer.
The anonymity has raised public concerns over transparency, especially with possible ties to funds like the National Social Security Fund ahead of dividends, fueling debates on disclosure for strategic assets.
