Counter-terrorism
police detained a 24-year-old British national and a 25-year-old dual
UK-Iranian national on Tuesday under the National Security Act, suspecting them
of assisting Iran's intelligence. The re-arrests stem from an incident on
September 27 near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, where three white vans
prompted evacuations and a major response; the men were among seven initially
arrested for explosives and terrorism offenses before release on bail.
Officials, including Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor, describe the probe as complex and ongoing, part of broader concerns over Iranian activities in the UK amid a 'severe' terrorism threat level. Five others remain on bail, with no charges filed yet.
