Kenya's Court Halts U.S. Health Funding Deal Over Privacy Concerns.

On Thursday, Justice Bahati Mwamuye issued orders suspending the December 4, 2025, Cooperation Framework signed in Washington by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. The deal promised U.S. funding over five years for universal health coverage, supplies, and facilities, but petitions from Senator Okiya Omtatah and COFEK raised alarms over secret execution, lack of public input, U.S. oversight of sites, and access to sensitive health data on HIV, TB, and maternal care.

President Ruto defended it as non-binding and protective of Kenyan laws, while the court blocks data transfers until full hearings in early 2026. The ruling highlights the balance between vital aid and safeguarding sovereignty.
