Truphena Muthoni Nears 72-Hour Tree Hugging Record in Nyeri.

She started the challenge on December 8 outside the Nyeri Governor's office to break her own 48-hour Guinness World Record and raise awareness for deforestation, climate change, indigenous tree conservation, and mental health.

The Scout, who has planted over 10,000 trees, drew support from Governor Mutahi Kahiga, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and PLO Lumumba, plus gifts like 1 million Kenyan shillings and a holiday. Some question the effort's focus amid local water issues and health risks, but Muthoni.

The 22-year-old from Nyeri County, who has planted over 10,000 trees, aims to break her own 48-hour Guinness World Record to highlight deforestation, mental health, and tree conservation. She wore a colorful crocheted outfit while enduring the nonstop embrace, with Governor Kahiga and Deputy Muthea Njeru joining the crowd for photos.

The event draws praise for her dedication alongside criticism that county leaders overlook urgent issues like the recent vandalism of the Kieni Water Project, which serves over 30,000 households and was ruled lawful by a November High Court decision.Project chair Joseph Kagiri called the damage by Water Resources Authority officials sabotage, leaving thousands without water.
