Meta Restricts Tanzanian Activists' Instagram Accounts After Regulator Demands.

Tanzania's communications regulator ordered Meta to block three Instagram accounts of activists like Mange Kimambi and Maria Sarungi Tsehai for posts urging peaceful protests and criticizing the government around the October 29 election. Meta partially complied by removing or restricting content in Tanzania, citing its own standards and legal orders, which led to full removals for repeat violations. The moves followed a disputed election win by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, protests, a security crackdown, and international condemnation from UN experts and U.S. senators over censorship and violence. Tanzania defends the restrictions as upholding security and public order amid clashing views on the activists' actions.
