Kenya Bolsters Ebola Defenses Amid Laikipia Quarantine Protests

A Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak has caused over 300 cases in the DRC and 11 in Uganda, with the WHO declaring it an international emergency last month.

Kenya, with no confirmed cases, is ramping up surveillance, labs, and isolation centers—including a controversial $13.5 million facility at Laikipia Air Base approved by President Ruto at President Trump's request.

Hundreds protested the site on June 1 over risks to nearby communities, leading to a High Court injunction, though health officials stress it boosts national readiness and already holds 37 Kenyans in quarantine.
