Protests Turn Deadly Over U.S. Ebola Quarantine Plan in Kenya

Two people died from gunshot wounds during Monday protests in Nanyuki against U.S. plans for a 50-bed Ebola quarantine at nearby Laikipia Air Base, as a Kenyan court extended its suspension of the project until June 23.

The facility would hold asymptomatic Americans exposed abroad, like aid workers from the DRC outbreak, with Kenya's President Ruto approving it as routine partnership backed by $13.5 million in aid.

Critics fear health risks without public input, and even local lawmakers opposed it, fueling ongoing demonstrations.
