Kenya Court Extends Suspension of U.S.-Backed Ebola Quarantine Facility

Kenya's High Court on June 2, 2026, extended a suspension of the facility at Laikipia Air Base, giving the government seven days to reveal full details of the U.S. agreement amid public outcry.

President Ruto approved the $13 million project at President Trump's request to quarantine up to 50 exposed Americans from the DRC outbreak, which has 125 confirmed cases and 223 deaths, while insisting it would also aid Kenyans.

Critics question why Kenya was chosen over closer neighbors, and protests escalated with road blockades, tire burnings, and Nairobi marches carrying mock coffins, prompting a U.S. travel advisory.
