Kenyan Deputy President Attends Key AUSSOM Summit in Uganda

Kenyan Deputy President Kithure Kindiki represented President William Ruto at the 2nd Extraordinary Summit of the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) in Entebbe, Uganda, on Friday.

The one-day meeting of troop-contributing nations, including Uganda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Egypt, and Somalia, addresses operational challenges and funding uncertainties as support structures expire after December 2026.

Following technical sessions chaired by Uganda’s Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and ministerial endorsements, heads of state like Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni and Somalia’s Hassan Sheikh Mohamud aim to secure directives for a smooth transition, stronger Somali institutions, and sustained fight against Al-Shabaab.
