Russian climbers Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus free-climb Empire State Building spire

Russian urban explorers Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus scaled the 1,454-foot exterior transmission spire of the Empire State Building in New York City without ropes or safety gear.

At the top, Ivan Beerkus proposed to Angela Nikolau and they displayed a banner reading 'When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world knows peace.'

The couple was arrested by NYPD for trespassing, reckless endangerment, burglary, and other charges, and later released under supervision.
