China Recalls Nearly 3 Million Teslas Over Door Handle Safety Issue

China's regulators are recalling about 2.98 million Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X vehicles due to retractable door handles that can be hard to find and use during crashes or power failures.

The issue affects over 4 million cars total from nine automakers, including XPeng, Xiaomi, and Geely, after reports of occupants struggling to exit.

Fixes include warning stickers for mechanical releases and over-the-air updates to lower windows automatically post-collision, ahead of a 2027 rule mandating power-independent door mechanisms.
