Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced on August 24 that a 50kg bag of
subsidized fertilizer will cost KSh 2,000, down 20% from KSh 2,500.
Certified maize seeds are now half price at
KSh 150 per kilogram, so a 2kg pack is KSh 300 instead of KSh 600.
President William Ruto previewed the cuts a day earlier at a church service, with the government spending KSh 6 billion on 40 million kilograms of seed to aid recovery and boost planting.
These steps build on past subsidies that have reached nearly 2 million farmers and aim to sustain maize production amid climate challenges.
