President
William Ruto will unveil the new uniforms on August 28 at Kiganjo Police
Training College, following 2023 consultations where officers rejected the
current deep navy-blue design for light blue shirts, navy pants, name tags,
logos, flags, sweaters, and reflectors.
Inspector General Douglas Kanja says the change
aims to lift morale and improve service, starting with general duty officers
while others keep their attire.
Online
reactions mix hope with skepticism, as many argue new clothes sidestep bigger
needs like better pay, housing, training, and accountability amid election
preparations.
