Political Parties Disputes Tribunal on August 25 issued orders reserving 'The
Mwananchi Party' name while blocking 'Linda Mwananchi' or similar for others
until a full hearing on September 14, 2026.
Sifuna's movement, meaning 'Protect the Citizen,' arose from Orange Democratic Movement frustrations and rallies on governance and living costs ahead of 2027 elections, facing off against the Liberty National Democratic Alliance (LINDA), which started registration in 2024 and claims priority.
Both sides say they followed procedures, with Sifuna emphasizing the brand's public traction and LINDA warning of confusion over identity and symbols.
