Trump Renames Lake Ontario to Lake America in Trade Dispute Move

The order requires federal agencies to update maps, documents, and records within 30 days, following Trump's earlier renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

Canadian leaders like Prime Minister Mark Carney and Ontario Premier Doug Ford firmly rejected it, vowing to keep calling it Lake Ontario, a name rooted in a 400-year-old Wendat word meaning 'the lake is beautiful, the lake is big.'

U.S. figures including Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker pushed back too, with Pritzker joking about renaming Trump Tower 'Natalie Tower.' The rename applies only to U.S. federal use and won't force changes elsewhere.
