Kenyan Editor Alex Kiprotich Abducted on Gilgil-Nakuru Road, Found Safe Near Masinga Dam

On September 1 evening, associate editor Alex Kiprotich of Kenya’s Standard Group was abducted by masked, armed men on the Gilgil-Nakuru road, the second attempt on him after a failed incident in June linked to police intelligence.

Dashcam footage showed the attack, and his captors—a group in a government-plated Subaru Forester with AK-47s—questioned him about the media house's critical reporting on President Ruto's government.

He was dumped near Masinga Dam over 200 km away and found around 6:30 a.m. on September 2, sparking calls for probes into press safety and state accountability.
